Incoming NLC President Announces Next Year's Committee Appointment Process

Rogers said she will make the leadership appointments (chairs and vice chairs) in late October or early November in order to have her leadership team mobilized at the conclusion of the 2012 Congress of Cities and Exposition in Boston, MA, November 28-December 1. Appointments to serve as members of the committees and councils will be completed in late December and all applicants will be notified in January 2013.
In her role as incoming NLC President, Mayor Rogers will appoint chairs, vice chairs, and members to the standing committees and councils for one-year terms. This includes the Policy and Advocacy Steering Committees; the Council on Youth, Education, and Families; the International Council; the Leadership Training Council; the Large Cities Council; the First Tier Suburbs Council; the Small Cities Council; and the University Communities Council. NLC is pleased to announce a new networking council for 2013 - the Military Communities Council.
Individuals must be from NLC member cities to hold a leadership position and serve on NLC standing committees and councils.
"The committee and council chairs and vice chairs, along with the leaders of the five constituency groups, play an important leadership role in accomplishing NLC's priorities and in strengthening the collective voice of local governments in 2013," said Rogers.

Online applications and biographical statements for committee chairs and vice chairs for all standing committee and councils are due by September 21. Committee chairs and vice chairs will be notified of their selection in late October or early November.
Rogers affirmed her commitment to NLC's long-standing tradition to appoint a leadership team that reflects the diversity of the NLC membership to the maximum extent possible.

City officials from NLC member cities who are interested in serving as members on any of the 2013 standing committees and councils should complete online applications by November 16. Please note that this deadline is before the Boston Congress of Cities.

All committees and councils will meet for the first time at the Congressional City Conference, which will be held March 9-13, 2013 in Washington, DC.
