NLC President Ted Ellis joined First Lady Michelle Obama and other city leaders to announce a new NLC project that will help local officials reduce childhood obesity. As part of this project, NLC will lead efforts to enhance the work of Let’s Move! Cities, Towns, and Counties.

The National League of Cities Announces Long-term Support for Let’s Move Cities, Towns and Counties
National League of Cities (NLC) President Ted Ellis, Bluffton, IN announces a new project to provide long-term support for local elected officials, including those participating in Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties (LMCTC). The announcement came as Mayor Ellis joined First Lady Michelle Obama in Philadelphia to promote the Let’s Move! initiative which is dedicated to solving the problem of childhood obesity with a generation.

NLC Prepares to Head to the National Political Conventions
With months remaining until the presidential election, planning is underway to send NLC delegations to both conventions: RNC (Tampa Bay) from August 27 to 30, and DNC (Charlotte) the week of September 3. NLC to Assist 11 Cities in Combating Childhood Hunger
As part of the Cities Combating Hunger through Afterschool Meal Programs (CHAMP) initiative, NLC has selected 11 cities to receive grant funding and practical guidance as they take steps to increase children’s participation in the federal Afterschool Meal Program.

National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials Foundation Selects 2012-2013 Fellows
District Heights, Maryland Commissioner Jamal I. Miller and Nashville, Tennessee, Councilmember Karen Y. Johnson have been chosen as the 2012-2013 Foundation Fellows for the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO) Foundation. The Foundation was founded by the NBC-LEO constituency group and is supported by the National League of Cities (NLC).
