WASHINGTON— The National League of Cities (NLC) Executive Director, Clarence Anthony issued the following statement in response to the federal government shutdown this evening:
“What a shame that Congress couldn't get its act together to fund the federal government. Instead, for the first time in 17 years, the federal government is now shutdown except for essential workers. Besides shirking its responsibilities, Congress' failure to pass a budget has real economic consequences for families and businesses in our communities. The economic uncertainty this creates is quite frankly, frustrating, and we urge Congress to move forward in finding a way out of this mess.”
The National League of Cities is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
