The LivCom Awards were launched in 1997 and are the world's only awards competition focusing on international best practices in local environmental management. The objective of LivCom is to develop and share international best practices, towards the purpose of improving the quality of life of individual citizens through the creation of 'livable communities.
Now in their 17th year, the prestigious LivCom International Awards are devoted to championing and rewarding sustainable development, quality of life and environmental best practices in communities around the world. The 2013 Livcom Awards Finals will be held in the coastal city of Xiamen, China from November 28 - December 2, 2013. The deadline to register for the Awards is May 31, 2013, and submissions must be received no later than June 30, 2013.
At the awards finals, judges evaluate a variety of sustainable development criteria including enhancement of the landscape, heritage management, environmentally-sensitive practices, community sustainability and planning for the future.
Each year, communities meet at the finals of The LivCom Awards and exchange best practices and practical experiences, and often join forces to address mutual challenges. These partnerships have inevitably lead to mutual technical advances and more effective and efficient use of resources.
Alan Smith, Chief Executive and founder of LivCom noted: "LivCom is both an Awards event and a major learning experience. Delegates are able to observe the presentations of other communities showing how a city was addressing challenges facing a diverse range of communities. Finalists quickly appreciated that the challenges that they faced are not unique but are the same, or similar to those faced by other communities in other countries and cultures."
LivCom is a non-partisan international organization, embracing all nations and cultures. Over 50 countries have been represented within the awards. To learn more and to apply, please visit the International Awards for Livable Communities registration page.
