The City Cultural Diversity Awards recognize creative and successful municipal programs that are designed to improve and promote cultural diversity through a collaborative process with city officials, community leaders and residents. The awards program was developed by the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO), an NLC constituency group as a means of demonstrating quality and innovation in addition to the many aspects of cultural diversity.
In addition to honoring cities for their excellence in diversity, the award program is designed to encourage citizen involvement in local government-sponsored activities and enhance the appreciation of cultural diversity as a way of life in cities and towns.
Winners are selected in each of four population categories and chosen by an independent panel of judges representative of all five of NLC's constituency groups:
The application for the 2013 City Cultural Diversity Awards and additional information is now available online. Please note the new requirement that all projects must be sent via PDF and the application fee can be paid by check or credit card. Additionally, only NLC member cities are eligible to apply. The deadline for submission is Friday, January 25, 2013.
The awards will be presented at the NLC Congressional City Conference Celebrate Diversity Breakfast on Monday, March 11, 2013. Award winners will be notified at the end of February. A press release will be available following the Celebrate Diversity Breakfast announcing all of the award winners.
