Strengthening & promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance

Disconnected Youth

Disconnected youth are those ages 16-24 who are unemployed, high school dropouts, transitioning from foster care, or involved in the justice system. They pose both a significant challenge and a great asset to cities and towns across the country.

Cities have a vested interest in helping disconnected youth access opportunities and supports to get their lives onto a positive path, including education and employment services. However, cities cannot make progress in this area without strong cross-system relationships with school districts, nonprofit organizations, and state and county agencies that interact with these youth on a daily basis.
