Youth Participation at NLC Conferences

For many years, in an effort to gain young people's perspectives on policies and programs and to help them learn about municipal government, NLC has involved youth delegates, ages 15 to 18, in its national conferences.

In particular, youth attend and participate in the annual Congressional City Conference in Washington, D.C., and the annual Congress of Cities and Exposition as full-fledged delegates, but at a reduced registration fee.

Youth have the opportunity to serve as workshop panelists as well as to be active participants.

This year, municipal officials are encouraged to bring youth delegates to the 84th annual Congress of Cities and Exposition in New Orleans.  The conference will offer youth an opportunity to learn about a broad range of issues affecting local government and will help inspire them to take action in their communities.
