Strengthening & promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance

Education Policy Advisors Network

The Education Policy Advisors' Network (EPAN) is a national network of senior municipal officials who are working with their mayors on key issues related to education reform and school improvement. These officials assist in implementing strategies to help their local school districts improve the quality of public education and confront the critical issues affecting student achievement.

Through periodic emails, a bi-monthly newsletter, a monthly conference call, and annual meetings, EPAN members have the opportunity to share information, insights, and lessons learned.

The fourth EPAN meeting was held in Washington, D.C., July 17-19, 2005.  Senior staff members advising mayors on education policy issues from over 30 cities convened to network and learn about the ways that mayors across the country are using - and can use - their prominence and stature to improve public schools and student achievement, as well as influence strategies for high school reform.

In December of 2004, more than 35 city officials gathered for the Fall EPAN meeting to discuss education policy at the municipal level and school improvement strategies.
