Strengthening & promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance

State and local governments own and operate the vast majority of our nation?s transportation infrastructure, including more than 75 percent of the four million mile highway and road network, 90 percent of transit systems, and close to 300,000 bridges. Providing reliable, affordable transportation to all citizens requires careful planning and the active participation of local elected officials working cooperatively with all levels of government.

The National League of Cities offers a variety of tools and services to support the work of city officials on issues of transportation and infrastructure, including spotlighting best practices on all transportation options, workshops on transportation planning, extensive policy development to guide federal advocacy on behalf of cities, and advocating for those federal laws and regulations that benefit municipalities.
