The webinar will feature Roberto Barragan, president of the Valley Economic Development Center (VEDC), the largest non-profit business development corporation in metro Los Angeles. VEDC offers direct micro and small-business loans and has 35 years of experience in providing affordable business assistance services, direct financial assistance, entrepreneurial training and economic development to individuals and businesses.
Mayor Thomas M. Menino has called for an economic development strategy on the city's waterfront that is more deliberate and experimental to create jobs, provide housing opportunities and build upon the city’s many assets. Coined the “Innovation District,” this new model is designed to foster collaboration among firms to drive productivity, especially among start-ups and research-based companies.
