Statewide Mayoral Summits on Afterschool & Expanded Learning
With support from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and The Wallace Foundation, the YEF Institute will provide technical and financial assistance to nine statewide afterschool networks that will host mayoral summits on afterschool and expanded learning opportunities in 2012.

- Washington Afterschool Network
Statewide mayoral summits will take place in the following locations:
- Minnesota: March 21 in St. Paul
- North Carolina: April 16-17 in Charlotte
- Washington: May 10 in Federal Way and May 15 in Cheney
- Virginia: June 6 in Richmond
- Maryland: June 25 in Ocean City (to be held during the Maryland Municipal League convention)
- Oregon: July 26 in Florence (information to be posted on the Oregon ASK website)
- Louisiana: August 2 in Lake Charles (information to be posted on the Louisiana Center for Afterschool Learning website)
- Pennsylvania: September, date and location TBD (information to be posted on the Pennsylvania Statewide Afterschool Youth Development Network website)
- Nebraska: September in Kearney, date TBD (information to be posted on the League of Nebraska Municipalities website)
Summits will convene mayors, city councilmembers, state agency officials, school and business leaders, and community partners to discuss how to expand afterschool opportunities for youth by improving policies and partnerships at the state and city levels.
The convenings will be designed to give municipal officials an opportunity to connect with peers from across their states, learn about successful efforts to create citywide systems of afterschool, join forces with other mayors to influence state afterschool policy, and develop strategic partnerships with networks and state agency leaders to advance local afterschool initiatives. 2009-10 Statewide Mayoral Summits
An earlier round of statewide mayoral summits on afterschool held in 2009 and 2010 with support from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation helped mayors and other municipal leaders in Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan and South Carolina learn how they can use out-of-school time programs to address a broad range of city priorities, including education, workforce preparedness, public safety and children's health.
These summits also connected city leaders with their statewide afterschool networks. In 38 states, these networks foster powerful statewide partnerships to impact state policy on afterschool, increase funding and improve the quality of programs.
