Earth Day (April 22nd) is a time when communities across the world come together to recognize the need for continued protection of the Earth’s invaluable natural resources. During the whole month of April, now termed “Earth Month,” residents and city leaders alike commit to celebrating these resources, protecting them with specific actions and celebrating these actions with others.
NLC's Sustainability Program hosted a special Earth Month webinar series highlighting city leadership in sustainability. This series celebrated the leadership and innovation of elected officials and their staff playing a critical role in advancing social, economic and environmental sustainability in their communities.
NLC profiled a different city in each of the four 30-minute webinars. Cities presented innovative programs, policies or initiatives that have been critical in moving the sustainability conversation forward in their communities. NLC highlighted communities of varied geographies and populations, from coastal towns and small suburbs to small and large cities to show the range of innovative efforts taking place.
