Our Town, Our 'Hood, a local community project, administers an active senior center and a teen leadership program for local residents. In 2010, the center launched Our Town, Our 'Hood to engage youth and seniors in their community's history and create a digital map of historical transformation. The project aims to teach media literacy through the production of community media and journalism. The initiative connects youth with seniors in their community to share, collect and interact with stories and experiences. These collections are put together as audio-visual stories. A group of volunteers from the Queens College Media Department and community members assists with these activities. Following an intensive media training session with volunteer journalists, the youth connected with three individuals in the Pomonok houses in Flushing, Queens to collect interviews.
