Survey Brief: City Engagement with the World
This overview offers a comparison of an initial assessment of relationships undertaken in a survey by John Kincaid in conjunction with the National League of Cities in 1996, "American Cities in the Global Economy," with a follow up survey was conducted in May of 2009, "City Engagements with Today's World." The following summary identifies some of the major findings.
Local Solutions from Around the Globe
A best practice guide focusing on transportation efficiency, sustainable energy, and immigrant integration.
Managing Your City's Global Connections
The case studies in this book demonstrate, local governments are refusing to be isolated from national and international events or institutions that impact the quality of life and opportunity for prosperity of their citizens. Using municipal resources, and leveraging private and community-based resources, city officials are directing and managing their global connections - their international relations - with creativity, practicality, dexterity, and economy.
Local Leadership for Building Global Communities Information Kit
Using the many resources available from cities and towns all across the country, we have sought to produce a straightforward portfolio that addresses some of the most frequently asked questions about the global economy and the impact of globalization at the local level. The resources provided here characterize globalization as simply another part of the economic development efforts already operating in cities.
United Cites and Local Governments (UCLG)
A global network of local officials from over 100 countries in every region of the world. Members share experiences, learn about successful programs, and establish alliances for mutual benefit. As the advocate for democracy and decentralized authority in cities and towns around the world, UCLG represents local interests before world institutions such as the United Nations and the World Bank. Representatives from the National League of Cities hold seats on the governing board of UCLG.
International Fellowships
The National League of Cities collaborates with three organizations that offer international fellowships for specialists in municipal government including local elected officials, professional staff and executive directors of state municipal leagues. These fellowships provide in-depth exposure to the Atlantic Alliance, Germany and Japan.
Global Partners & Alliances
The National League of Cities has a network of partnerships and alliances across the United States and around the world. At the present time, programs and projects are underway with a number of institutions.
