Data has the ability to transform the way cities manage and provide a variety of services – including transportation. This webinar will demonstrate how readily available transportation data can be leveraged to:
- make better decision regarding transportation investments;
- inform the traveling public;
- answer tough questions from the media and decision makers;
- understand the cost of congestion; and
- maintain situational awareness – especially during emergencies or significant events.
The University of Maryland’s Center for Advanced Transportation Technology Laboratory has created the Regional Integrated Transportation Information System (RITIS) to meet these objectives. This webinar will demonstrate this system and it's user-friendly analytics tools which are revolutionizing transportation management and planning across the country. RITIS automatically fuses, translates, and standardizes data obtained from multiple agencies and private sector data providers in order to provide an enhanced overall view of the regional transportation network. Participating agencies are able to view transportation and related emergency management information through innovative visualizations and use it to improve their operations and emergency preparedness. RITIS also has a powerful suite of analytics tools which allow agencies to make more informed decisions regarding transportation investment decisions.
The National League of Cities has partnered with the Intelligent Transportation Society of America to develop this webinar which demonstrates the RITIS system and how it is managing the region’s complex transportation system. It will also cover what some of the quantifiable environmental and economic benefits have been and the impact it is having on planning transportation systems that meet future needs.
