City Showcase Sponsorship

The City Showcase is NLC’s premier program celebrating city achievements. Successful, creative programs from cities and towns across the country are selected to be recognized for their accomplishments and invited to participate in educational activities and program sharing. In 2011, 24 programs were selected from 69 applications. Cities ranged from population sizes of less than 1,000 to over 800,000 and represented 17 states.

Programs are selected each year for their innovative practices and for their contribution to a collection of programs that demonstrates a wide range of geographical locations, city sizes, and topic areas. The centerpiece of the 2012 City Showcase activities will take place during the Congress of Cities and Exposition in Boston, Massachusetts, November 28 - December 1, 2012. In addition, each year NLC is proud to feature innovative city programs from the conference host city/region. This year, six (6) programs from the host city of Boston will be selected.

In 2012, programs will be highlighted in three topical areas as follows:

  • Building sustainable communities 
  • Promoting strong local economies 
  • Strengthening neighborhoods and families

Congress of Cities and Exposition

The Congress of Cities and Exposition each fall is the primary event at which the City Showcase communities are celebrated and programs are shared. Representatives from selected programs engaged in conversations with attendees about their implementation strategies, successes and lessons learned, and have the opportunity to display their information in the exhibit hall and serve on workshop panels.
