Our nation's recent economic experience has underscored the challenges that families confront in navigating today's complex financial services market, avoiding predatory practices that erode their paychecks and trap them in debt, and building assets for a stable future. Increasingly attuned to the impact of family financial instability on their local economies, more city leaders are spearheading broad-based financial empowerment initiatives, including access to low or no-cost banking services, free tax preparation and credit counseling, savings programs, financial education, use of direct deposit, and low-cost alternatives to high-interest, short-term loans.
Participants in this webinar will hear about cutting-edge city initiatives directly from municipal leaders and city staff, and learn how they can begin or enhance financial inclusion efforts in their own communities. Speakers will include:
- Ray Boshara, Senior Advisor, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis
- Jerry DeGrieck, Senior Policy Advisor, Office of the Mayor, City of Seattle, Wash.
- Adria Johnson, Acting Director, Department of Community Services and Revitalization, City of Louisville, Ky.
- Tina Lentz, Executive Administrator, Department of Community Services and Revitalization, City of Louisville, Ky.
