Strengthening & promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance

Great Solutions Emerge From NLC’s Invitation

by Tricia Dwyer-Morgan

Cities across the country, federal agencies, universities, corporations and nonprofits responded to NLC's Call for Solutions for the 85th Annual Congress of Cities and Exposition. More than 50 solutions from across the country were submitted to the organization.

NLC issued a Call for Great Solutions to gather innovative solutions and great ideas that address issues facing cities. NLC wanted to ensure that its 5,000 Congress of Cities participants have access to a full spectrum of knowledge about solutions that create stronger cities. The organization reached out to colleagues through different networks to tap their wealth of experience including its memberships said conference planners.

“We are gratified by the excellent response,” said Janice Pauline, director of NLC's Center for Conferences and Training.

NLC is still reviewing the influx of submissions and will be notifying submitters of the status of their submission by mid-September. NLC is considering multiple ways to utilize the submissions not only during the 2008 Congress of Cities, but also at other upcoming conferences including the 2009 Green Cities Conference as well as possible webinars and audioconferences.

The solutions submitted are allowing NLC unprecedented insight into the workings of cities across the country as well as the organizations that work with them to shape better communities.
