Applications Now Available for NBC-LEO City Cultural Diversity Award
by Rikka Batulan
NLC’s National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO) constituency group is accepting applications for the 2009 City Cultural Diversity Award.
This award was founded by NBC-LEO to acknowledge and honor cities for their community leadership in developing programs to improve and provide government services to multiracial and multicultural populations.
“The NBC-LEO Diversity Awards highlights unique events, lifestyles and people from across our cities, towns and villages to remind us that there is but one America and its each of us with our different colors, languages, and religions and cultures,” stated NBC-LEO President Daisy W. Lynum, commissioner, Orlando, Fla.
This year’s City Cultural Diversity Awards Program Committee will be chaired by NBC-LEO President-Elect Audwin Samuel, councilmember, Beaumont, Texas. Judges include members from NBC-LEO and other constituency groups of NLC. “I’m excited about the quality of applications being submitted,” said Councilmember Samuel.
Only NLC member cities are eligible to apply. Up to eight City Cultural Diversity Awards will be presented at the March 16, 2009, Celebrate Diversity Breakfast during the Congressional City Conference in Washington, D.C.
