NLC's Agenda for the Nation Seeks Partnership With the Federal Government
by NLC
As 2009 begins, NLC is calling on Congress and President-elect Obama to quickly pass an economic relief package that will help America’s hometowns and families by stimulating the economy, creating good jobs for residents and providing meaningful long-lasting benefits to communitiess.
The call for economic recovery is one of several issues NLC is focused on for the coming year. Policy briefs are available online as NLC's Agenda for the Nation. The Agenda focuses on many issues, including: housing; infrastructure; health care reform; sustainability; poverty reducation and opportunity; public safety and homeland security; and immigration.
In addition to calling for economic stimulus, NLC has reached out to, and been contacted by, transition team representatives overseeing the transition from an intergovernmental perspective at several departments to describe how America’s hometowns are an integral part of the solutions to the challenges facing the country. In response, the President-elect’s representatives have solicited opinions and recommendations for policy changes from NLC and conveyed a desire to collaborate in these challenging times.
