WASHINGTON — September 5, 2017 — This afternoon, President Donald J. Trump announced his decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which provided protections for certain undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children. In response to today’s announcement, National League of Cities President Matt Zone, councilmember, Cleveland, released the following statement:

"As city leaders, it saddens us to see the president dismantle the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and place 800,000 of our young residents in a state of limbo. As optimists, we see this as an opportunity for Congress to finally institutionalize protections for Dreamers through legislation. Dreamers call this country home, and they deserve to have protections that are guaranteed beyond election cycles. The president gave Congress six months to get the job done; now get it done.”
