Senior Associate, Education & Training (Technology, Management & Finance)

The National League of Cities is seeking an experienced professional to be responsible for coordinating education and training programs for local elected officials and city staff related to the strategic use of data and technology, results-based management and key skills related to budgeting and finance, while leading efforts to infuse these skills and strategies into the broader work of the National League of Cities and state municipal leagues.  Reports to the Director, NLC University.

Examples of Work

Based on strong knowledge of data, technology, management and finance issues and key partnerships on these topics, design education and training for city officials and staff, including in-person seminars, webinars, online training, cohort/peer network support and other leadership development opportunities.

Support NLC and state league program staff in applying lessons in these fields to the work that they do and weaving them into technical assistance and peer networks focused on particular subject areas.

Provide primary support for the NLC University advisory body to ensure that the work is representative of cutting edge practices in education and training, leverages partnership opportunities, and responds to members’ interests.

Coordinate with Conference and Meetings staff to ensure that all logistics for in-person meetings are well-planned, on schedule, within budget, and support the overall objectives of the event.

Coordinate with Digital Engagement staff to develop new formats for online learning and ensure adequate customer support related to registration and digital learning.

Coordinate with Membership and Marketing staff to grow the number of members participating in NLC University and position these educational offerings as a value proposition to attract new members.

In collaboration with the Director, identify expected results from this program area, and develop work plans, budgets, and accountability measures to ensure that the program achieves desired results and can continually improve based on member feedback.

Coordinate with the Deputy Director and Director of Talent Management to support internal training opportunities for NLC (and state league) staff leveraging NLC University partnerships.

Coordinate scholarship application and selection process for educational events.

Travel required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required.  Minimum of five years of relevant, progressively responsible experience or equivalent combination of relevant graduate-level education and work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of some combination of public administration, information technology, management and municipal finance issues; application to a municipal setting preferred.  Experience developing education and training for adult learners; understanding of or prior experience with new technologies and emerging approaches to training a plus.  Entrepreneurial mindset paired with project management skills and attention to detail.  Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively and interact effectively with members, the public, and all levels of NLC and state league staff.
