The National League of Cities (NLC) recognizes cities and towns that have turned ideas into accomplishments. It provides various avenues to cities for sharing and rewarding their efforts. Each year, member cities are given the opportunity to nominate their programs for three different award and recognition programs: Awards for Municipal Excellence, City Cultural Diversity Awards, and City Showcase.
Awards for Municipal Excellence

The Awards for Municipal Excellence identify and showcase outstanding city and town programs that improve the quality of life in America's communities. These awards are presented at the annual Congress of Cities and Exposition. Postmark deadline for nomination packets is May 1, 2008.

Certificate of Achievement in Leadership Program
The Leadership Training Institute has developed the Certificate of Achievement in Leadership Program in an effort to recognize and acknowledge excellence in local government leadership. The Certificate of Achievement in Leadership Program is built on the core leadership skills for local elected officials.
City Cultural Diversity Awards

The National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO), a constituency group of NLC, established the City Cultural Diversity Awards to honor cities that exhibit quality and innovation promoting cultural diversity. These awards are presented at the annual Congressional City Conference.
City Showcase

The City Showcase is an annual exhibition of successful, creative programs from cities and towns across the country. Display booths at NLC's annual Congress of Cities and Exposition provide attendees the opportunity to network with their peers, and talk about the details of implementing a great city program.
WIMG Leadership Award

The award will recognize female municipal officials for their unique and outstanding leadership in local government. Each year, the winner will be recognized for implementing a program in local government that helps to improve a city or a town's quality of life for its citizens, particularly if her leadership serves as a specific mentoring model for future women leaders. 2007 WIMG Leadership Award Application >
