News Briefs

12/12/06  NLC joined others today in sending a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) opposing a draft order that would federally mandate how video franchising would occur in the United States.  The letter challenges the authority of the FCC to take such action (expected as soon as Dec. 20) and expresses the concerns of municipal and county governments that the order "undermines local franchising authority and enforcement, threatens local budgets, and limits the benefits of broadband video competition to a few well-to-do neighborhoods."  ? Letter to FCC
