An upcoming, free audioconference will focus on successful partnerships between mayors and city police departments to protect the safety of children and youth.
?Keeping Young People Safe: Effective Mayor-Law Enforcement Partnerships,? sponsored by NLC?s Institute for Youth, Education, and Families (YEF Institute) will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 2:30 p.m. EST.
Content and Speakers
The call will highlight strategies emerging from a YEF Institute project to identify innovative partnerships that keep young people safe. The project is a collaborative effort with the Department of Justice?s Office of Community-Oriented Policing Services and the International Association of Police Chiefs.
This extensive research, data collection and outreach initiative focuses specifically on partnerships that address topics such as youth violence, bullying, delinquency prevention and substance abuse.
A forthcoming NLC report will highlight a broad range of promising practices that can be applied in cities of varying sizes across the country.
The audioconference will address several key themes that will appear in the report: collaboration among city agencies, police departments and community-based organizations, mayoral and police chief leadership, and measuring outcomes.
Speakers for this call will include city officials and law enforcement officials interviewed for the project as well as members of NLC?s Advisory Group on Mayor-Law Enforcement Partnerships, which provided oversight and guidance.
