NLC President Announces Nominating Committee

NLC President James Hunt, councilmember, Clarksburg, W.Va., has appointed the 15-member Nominating Committee that will be responsible for recommending a slate of officers and Board members to lead NLC in 2007.

Next year?s leaders will be elected during the annual business meeting at the Congress of Cities and Exposition in Reno, Nev., on Saturday, Dec. 9.

NLC Immediate Past President Anthony A. Williams, mayor of Washington, D.C., will chair the committee, which includes two state municipal league executive directors and 12 elected city officials.

The state league directors are Sylvia Lovely of the Kentucky League of Cities Inc. and Ken Strobeck of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.

Elected officials serving on the committee are: Mayor Clarence Anthony of South Bay, Fla.; Mayor Ted Ellis of Bluffton, Ind.; Councilwoman Willa Johnson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Councilmember Conrad Lee of Bellevue, Wash.; Mayor Joe Maestas of Espa?ola, N.M.; Councilmember Marcia Marcoux of Rochester, Minn.; Councilmember James Mitchell Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; Councilmember Felicia Moore of Atlanta; Mayor Lou Ogden of Tualatin, Ore.; Commissioner Patty Sheehan of Orlando, Fla.; Councilmember Charleta Tavares of Columbus, Ohio; and Councilor Evelyn Woodson of Columbus, Ga.

The committee will hold an open hearing to receive nominations during the Congress of Cities, on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 4 p.m. All candidates should submit a candidate data form to indicate their plans to run for office and to provide information about their candidacy for the Nominating Committee.
