NLC?s YEF Institute Announces New Audioconferences for Fall

by Jessica Burch Hembree

One of NLC?s most popular resources resumes this fall with a 2005-2006 schedule of nine audioconferences on issues related to children, youth, education and families.

These free, hour-long audioconferences are designed especially for municipal officials and other community leaders to provide opportunities to listen to ? and participate in ? discussions of new ideas, innovative practices and necessary skills.
They are sponsored by NLC?s Institute for Youth, Education, and Families.

These audioconferences are led by YEF Institute staff and include experts in local programming and/or national policy leaders. Questions from the audience are encouraged, both through submissions ahead of time and during the latter part of the call itself.

The audioconferences are free. However, they are available only to a limited number of participants. Therefore, advance registration is required by close of business on the Tuesday prior to the call. A separate registration is needed for each phone line that will be used in listening to the call.

Audioconference registrants are encouraged to invite colleagues to listen in together around a speakerphone.

Some cities or programs use the call as a training session, and others use the call to brainstorm with local officials and community leaders.

There have been 26 audioconferences to date. Transcripts are posted to the YEF Institute website at http://www.nlc.org/iyef/events_audioconferences/1607.aspx.  Audio tapes are usually available.
