Strengthening & promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance

How Has NLC?s Institute for Youth, Education, and Families Made A Difference?

In 2000, NLC launched its Institute for Youth, Education, and Families (YEF Institute) to strengthen the capacity of municipal leaders to address the needs of children, youth and families in their own communities.

Now, in anticipation of the YEF Institute?s fifth anniversary, NLC is collecting information on ways in which the Institute?s efforts have supported or advanced the work of municipal leaders.

During the past five years, the YEF Institute has developed a wide array of programs, resources and activities that support the work of city officials across America. These offerings include site-specific technical assistance projects, leadership academies, peer networks, national and regional meetings, monthly audioconferences, publications such as action kits and a wealth of timely information disseminated via e-mail and through NLC?s website.

If your city or town has participated in YEF Institute projects or events, or if you have utilized its publications and resources, NLC is eager to hear how these various types of assistance have made a difference in your community.

While general feedback on the YEF Institute?s work is always welcome, information regarding specific outcomes or examples of local progress that have resulted from the city?s contact with the YEF Institute will be particularly appreciated.

Responses to this request can be submitted in a brief e-mail message addressed to iyef@nlc.org, or your reply and copies of any relevant materials can be faxed to YEF Institute at 202-626-3043. If you have questions, you may use the e-mail address or leave a phone message at 202-626-3014.
