Technical Assistance Projects
Reengaging Disconnected Youth Through Economic Recovery Efforts (2009-10)
In June of 2009, the YEF Institute selected 12 cities to participate in a virtual learning community focused on using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to strengthen local youth employment efforts. Participating cities included Des Moines, Iowa; Dubuque, Iowa; Hartford, Conn.; Manchester, Conn.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Newark, N.J.; Portland, Ore.; Reno, Nev.; Rochester, N.Y.; Tucson, Ariz.; Washington, D.C.; and West Palm Beach, Fla.
In early 2010, the cities of Dubuque, Manchester, Rochester, and Tucson were selected to receive additional technical assistance around connecting older youth to employment opportunities and helping them attain educational certifications.

Re-engaging Disconnected Youth through Expanding Opportunities for High School and Cross-System Collaboration: Professional Development for Local Leaders (2008-09)
The YEF Institute worked with the American Youth Policy Forum to plan a series of workshops and field trips to help local leaders learn more about reaching struggling students and out-of-school youth and expanding options and alternatives for high school-aged young people.The project offered local leaders an opportunity to participate in strategically designed and intensive workshops and field trips during which participants engage in substantive policy discussions with their counterparts in other cities and visit exemplary programs. Municipal Leadership for Disconnected Youth Project (2007-08)
The YEF Institute worked with six cities - Denver; Hartford, Conn.; Newark, N.J.; Orlando, Fla.; Roanoke, Va.; and St. Louis - to help municipal leaders reengage disconnected youth through cross-system collaboration. Helping Municipal Leaders Expand Options and Alternatives for High School Project (2005-07)
This intensive, two-year technical assistance project helped the Cities of Corpus Christi, Texas, Hartford, Conn., Phoenix, Ariz., San Antonio, Texas, and San Jose, Calif., develop and implement strategies for expanding options and alternatives for high school to prepare all students for college, work, and citizenship.
