America's Promise Alliance Dropout Prevention Summits
America's Promise Alliance and their partners announced a new Dropout Prevention Campaign that will support 50 cities and every state in hosting dropout prevention summits by the year 2010. The summits will raise awareness, encourage collaboration and facilitate action in those states and communities that want to improve their graduation rates. The campaign was announced in conjunction with the release of a new report called “Cities in Crisis: A Special Analytic Report on High School Graduation," which suggests that nearly one third of high school students drop out of school before graduating.

Mayors' Education Policy Advisors Network Winter 2008 Meeting (February 5-7, 2008)
Members of the Mayors' Education Policy Advisors Network (EPAN) met in San Diego, Calif., to discuss school improvement strategies, alternatives and options for high school, easing the transition from high school to college, and connecting in-school and out-of-school time.

Mayors Leadership Forum on Improving Public Schools (April 10-11, 2006)
Nearly a dozen mayors from cities across the nation gathered in St. Petersburg, Fla., from April 10-11, 2006, to focus on innovative approaches to mayoral leadership approaches. Strategies highlighted at the forum included robust corporate partnerships, charter school initiatives, efforts to enhance school readiness, support for afterschool programs, incentives for teacher recruitment, and high school reform.
