Technical Assistance Projects
AHSI Place-Based Partnerships (2008)
Striving to help cities reduce dropout rates and improve students' educational outcomes, the YEF Institute, along with its partners in the Alternative High School Initiative (AHSI) network, will work intensively with the cities of Indianapolis, Nashville, and Newark to establish new innovation-model alternative schools for students who struggle in traditional high school settings.
These cities will launch "place-based partnerships" with the AHSI network of youth development organizations to create new schools and overhaul existing schools to achieve a scale of options that ensures every young person is prepared for college and career success.

Helping Municipal Leaders Expand Options and Alternatives for High School Project (2005-07)
This intensive, two-year technical assistance project helped the Cities of Corpus Christi, Texas, Hartford, Conn., Phoenix, Ariz., San Antonio, Texas, and San Jose, Calif., develop and implement strategies for expanding options and alternatives for high school to prepare all students for college, work, and citizenship. Municipal Leadership in Education Project (2001-04)
This 30-month technical assistance project strengthened the capacity of municipal leaders in the Cities of Charleston, S.C., Columbus, Ohio, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Lansing, Mich., New Haven, Conn., and Portland, Ore., in improving the quality of public education. Lessons from these cities initiatives are available in the YEF Institute's report, Stronger Schools, Stronger Cities.
